Men often don't think about skin care the same way women do. They lather up with soap in the shower and follow with a shave at the sink. The routine rarely includes moisturizers or exfoliators, much less masks and products that help them age better.
But men should take care of their skin as well as women do. There's an array of products available for men to take care of their skin.
Let's start with cleansing. While using soap might be OK for several years, by the time a man gets into his 30s, he should add a solid cleanser to his regimen. It takes no longer to use a cleanser than soap in the shower, but a cleanser can add so much more to the overall quality of the skin care regimen.
When men shave, they naturally exfoliate their skin, but experts say that men should consider a full line of skin care products, which includes regular exfoliation. An exfoliating product might be used at night, when he's not shaving, or as a regular step after cleansing and shaving. If using an exfoliator after shaving and cleansing, be careful to pick one that's fairly gentle so the skin isn't cleansed and exfoliated until it's raw.
Men can also avail themselves of the array of toning products available, and like women, should follow all of these skin treatments with a moisturizer (which should be used daily, in fact).
Men with particular skin problems can find products to address those problems. There are blemish spot treatments available as well as products that cover the blemishes (a form of makeup, really), and men can also uses masks and toners. Acne treatment products are available in versions made just for men as well.
Now, men shouldn't ignore the anti aging help they can get from their skincare. Although we often think of anti aging skincare regimens as primarily for women, the reality is that men also need any benefit from anti aging products as well. There are many products for men that include anti aging ingredients like Vitamins A and C and retinol. These ingredients can be found in cleansers, moisturizers and even shaving cream.
While we're on the topic of shaving, let's not overlook the importance of shaving cream. Many men purchase the cheapest cream they can find, and pay little or no attention to the ingredients and the quality of that cream. But most men shave daily, so that product is on the skin daily. Men should be careful to select creams that are of a high quality and that contain quality ingredients.
After shaving, a good product to add to a man's regimen is an aftershave or a product that specifically addresses shave irritation.
If men are willing to look around, they will find that there are many options for good quality skin care.
